Capstone: Week Ten

This week I focused on one of the four categories I created last week: love. I started watching a sermon series called “U R Loved” by Mike Todd and started a book called “Crazy Love” by Francis Chan.

In English we only have one word for love. But, in the Bible there are multiple in the Greek language. The word agape describes God’s love for us.

The sermon series was helpful for understanding why we desire to be loved. It comes from us needing to be valued, and we get this confirmation when we are loved by others. Once you truly understand how much you are loved by God, you will gain confidence, and fear will have to leave. Nothing can separate you from God. In fact, you were created from love because you were created in the image of God and God is love. God loved us first, before we could even try to do anything to earn it, and no matter what we do, we can’t earn it. He loves out of His own choice, not obligation, so we can’t do anything to lose that love either.

Some good quotes from “Crazy Love”:

“We need to be awed by [God’s] unfathomable love for us.”

“God knew me before He made me.”

“My existence was not random, nor was it an accident. God knew who He was creating, and He designed me for specific work.”

“Jesus doesn’t have to love us…He wants us, chooses us…treasures us.”

“…steadfastly loves us.”

“God loves you, individually and personally and intimately.”
